Jewel Box Second Stage

Now in its seventh season, The Jewel Box's Play Reading Series presents script-in-hand performances of outstanding works by respected playwrights. These are performances with minimal staging and production values. They allow us to keep ticket prices low, yet bring award-winning scripts to your attention. They offer compelling stories, read in dramatic and effective ways, which move, enlighten, and entertain. And they're a tremendous value! Tickets are just $10 and available at the door.

A Bad Year for Tomatoes

Friday, May 12 and Saturday May 13 at 7:30 p.m.

The Jewel Box brings another great Second Stage production for your enjoyment, a script-in-hand production of the comedy, A Bad Year for Tomatoes, by John Patrick and directed by Kathy Currie.

Aging mega-star Myra Marlowe (played by Kristi Jacobson, our whip cream squirting character from Red Velvet Cake War), has come to the sleepy Vermont village of Beaver Haven to write her autobiography. Her agent Tom (played by Joe Prevost, most recently seen as the editor in The Crossing), is trying hard to bring her back to Hollywood, but Myra is determined to settle down to a quiet and anonymous life. Enter Cora (played by Heather Walen, Peaches in Red Velvet), Willa (played by Michelle Peterson, who played Aunt La Merle), Reba (played by Rilla Hughes, who played Bitsy), an axe-wielding Mr. Piney (played by Craig Gurney), and the local sheriff (played by Zach Walen). All notion of a “quiet and anonymous” life are laughingly chased away.

Trying to get the friendly (read that "nosy") neighbors to leave her alone, Myra creates a crazy, homicidal twin. Of course, nothing works out as planned, except the laughs. So come enjoy an evening of fun live theater.

Tickets are just $10 at the door. Seating is first come, first served—no phone reservations please. Doors open at 6:30. More information at www.jewelboxpoulsbo.org or 360-697-3183. The theater is located at 225 Iverson St. in downtown Poulsbo.
